Keeping It Simple Works Period.....

In the modern gyms today you have to do this for triceps, biceps, quads, hams, calves, chest ect. ect. Unless you're in rehab why the fuck waste your time with individual muscle groups. Excuse the language but sometimes some trainers just piss me off because not only are they teaching a client the wrong thing but at certain can even get them injured and even some trainers tell you to do as many as 20 or more exercises for 10 different muscle groups to get a full benefit in exercise.....Bullshit. Whether you're a weight lifter, bodyweight enthusiast or a strongman the very best program you can do is a simple one. Now that doesn't mean easy, simple and easy are two different things.

Yes in some cases you can do 20 or more exercises in a workout but each one hits the whole body in a different fasion and my favorite form of training is doing energy drills. Work the joints in various places from your neck to your toes and with the right amount of time and being smart you can do all the exercises in either 5 min. or an hour. Now a real simple program for a weight lifter really is only no more then 5 exercises total doing presses, pulls, squats and rows. This works the whole body and you can do it in less then 20 min. max. Now people buy into that bullshit senerio that they need this for that muscle and that for that muscle and its just plain stupid. Back in the golden age of physical culture before steriods was huge and supplements were "the way" of the future you had men and women busting their asses working on basic lifts and full body calisthenic work. Some of them did a combination of both like George Hackenshmidt and Otto Arco. Both men were strongmen in their own way but both used bodyweight and weightlifting and they were so basic its stupid.

For a simple Bodyweight Program its usually around push-ups, squats, sit-ups and pull-ups. You really don't need much more then that but supplement exercises like muscle control and self resistance can help build certain muscles bodyweight exercises cant touch. It doesn't matter what people say in my opinion basic exercise is the best way to go. Here are a few places to pick a plethora of exercises and only need to master a few of them. Personally you can do exercise throughout the day or in one big workout choose only 5-7 exercises and go for no more then 20 minutes. It saves you time, gym fees and gives you complete freedom.

Handstand Push-ups For Total Upper Body Strength & Power

When I got into bodyweight training I started doing it for recovery in my legs and build up to a ridiculious number of squats. After that I began finding exercises that were very difficult to do and getting up past 15-20 would be in the realm of dreams for most people so I gave the handstand push-up a try. At first I couldn't hold a handstand on the wall for more then 5 seconds before I fell on my ass. I kept at it and learned various techniques and in a short period of time I was hitting numbers that most people at my size can never imagine. It is difficult to hold a handstand let alone do 1 rep of a handstand push-up. After getting stronger in this I did a little research.

For the most part if you want to get good at start something you have to start with the basics. Some people think they're more advanced but if you asked them to do a basic thing they won't get within an inch of what they say they can do. Learning a foundation is a key to great success if you want to go beyond what you're capable of. Take my friend Logan Christopher for example, here is a guy who looks like he can be a very limber individual but if you put the 2 of us together most likely at first you'll probably guess i'm the much stronger one right? I mean hell i'm 240+ pounds and can do things not many people in the world can do but I hate to disappoint you guys but the truth is, Logan is actually pound for pound stronger then I'am and I'm not ashamed to say this.

Back to my research, I discovered many techniques on how to do handstand push-ups and tried many variations but nothing has come close to what Logan teaches in his Ultimate Guide To Handstand Push-ups Course. This book will take you through all you need to start learning the basics, intermidiate and advanced variations of the handstand push-up. After learning just a few techniques from him I've become much more aware of where I'am, where my hand placements need to be and how to make the exercise harder or easier within seconds. Recovery Tips After Hardcore Training

We all do some form of training where it takes us beyond a average level and takes us to limits we didn't know we had and its very difficult to recover from the next day. How do you train after doing such a brutal workout? This past Monday I did the Karl Gotch Bible where I varied the push-ups and kept the Hindu Squats. My goal was to finish the workout in 30 minutes and I surpassed it and finished in under 27 minutes. I don't know about you but damn that feels good to get pass a goal. After a few hours I did another training session doing a series of chest and arm exercises from a course called Sinkram.

The very next morning I didn't want to get out of bed I was so sore in my shoulders, chest and legs. Even though I was sore I was not going to deny a workout at least once in the day. I have been known to train 7 days a week without fail and the reason why I do that is not because I need to prove how many workouts I do, its how smart I can be to train daily that doesn't need to be brutal day in and day out. A lot of people feel that you need to train only 2-3 times a week and have to do this or that for recovery and take 4-5 days off. Well if you can do that in the long run more power to you but thats not the only way to go and heres why.

Our bodies were made to keep moving, we work different angles of the body and if you're smart this helps you stay healthy for life along with a balanced eating plan. There are times to train hard and there are times where you need recovery any one of my secrets is after a hardcore workout (day after) I would work on deep breathing exercises and some form of qi gong. If i'm very sore in a particular area like the legs or lower back, chest, shoulders ect. I woul do very little to no work in those areas until they "heal" because I want to give those areas a rest but the rest of my body is working from different angles at light to moderate intensity. This is where I like to work on muscle control and stretching/loosening the body. The only time I work the sore areas is when i'm stretching because when you're sore and you leave it sore over a period of time with no exercise it can tighten up and you may not be as efficiant in your next big time workout. Stretch the muscles slowly and with intention.

I always felt stretching is a key component in recovery periods because at my next harcore session not only do I want to be stronger but more limber then the last time. Just do a couple stretches and each day do a stretch a little longer howver don't go to the point where you're in pain, its not how far you can go or how long you stretch its how smart you stretch and the way you breathe....Breathing is the major key to recovery and for good reason.

Each day as I get stronger I amp up a workout just a bit to just about 70% of the intensity of the work I want to do in a brutal workout the next time around. My training really consists of 1-2 hardcore workouts a week along with moderate work the rest of the week until i'm fully recovered. I may not do specific routines because I get bored after a while but I always want to have at least one day where I push myself up a notch.

My keys to recovery training is as follows.....

1. Breathing

2. Stretching

3. Work at moderate pace that doesn't compromise your ability to train the next day

4. Meditate (either moving or not)

Are You Up To The Outlaw Challenge?

If you're a typical weightlifter in a commercial gym there are certain rules you feel you HAVE to follow....Do this for biceps, do this for back, do this for legs blah blah blah. Well try telling that to Strongman Bud Jeffries. Make Your Kettlebell Snatch a dominate workout Component

Working with Kettlebells there are many ways to turn your workouts from boring to extremely fun and the KB Snatch is no exception. I have personally done 83 Snatches with a 53lb. Kettlebell in 5 minutes. Compare that to my bud Logan who is as of official standards to be one of only 3 men in the world including John Brookfield to hit 300+ Snatches in 10 min. Thats pretty damn impressive considering he is 6'2 and 185 pounds. Not a big dude but really powerful. He has put together a series that can take your Snatch to the next level and then some. The Snatch can make or break a conditioning workout so if you don't have the technique down you're in a world of hurt.

Task into consideration if you're a fanatic of kettlebells that many workouts can put you in the elite level of Octane Strength & Conditioning but also if you're careful you will be bruised and it will sting. Work on technique and keep the body in alignment for the Snatch.

Superhuman Workshop Weekend

When you go to a seminar where theres just a great deal of energy in the air and even as some things go around something jut stirs in the back of your mind., then you turn around and see Bud Jeffries and now its really on. This wasn't your normal type laid back and do some things for the day type seminar. This was hands on in your face get off your ass and train type seminar and not just physical but mental as well.

I have met a few people in my life that are a bit on the above average when it comes to strength then you meet a man who bottom squatted 1000 lbs. Thats not above average my friend thats just over the top freakish (and thats the simplist way to put it). On a serious note this was one of the greatest weekends of my life and even though i'm known for my memory, I know this will stick with me for the rest of my life. It wasn't just fun but it was very educational with a few laughs and jokes and some outlandish type strength training.

First night was more on psychology with a dose of hypnosis and visualization training. It was an interesting experience and it gave a whole new prespective on mental conditioning. My bud Logan hypnotized a couple people and the way he presented himself was raw and emotional and a good portion of it worked. Then Bud Jeffries walked into the gym and then it went all uphill from there. The man is a freak of nature and thats putting it with great respect.

The second day was probably my most favorite because I got to have full hands on training with the two strongmen. We tore up phonebooks, some ripped up some cards out of a deck and just destroyed good solid steel. Now I don't personally squat weights anymore due to my problems in the lower legs but I did take a shot at partial squatting 500+ pounds which to me felt awesome. Worked on some crazy bodyweight training. Now may I say Bud is nearly 6' and weighs in at a whopping 270 pounds, a good portion of that is powerful functional muscle along with over the top power in the tendons and ligiments. I've heard and seen on video what he's capable of and saw upclose and personal what he can do with steel but the best thing I really saw him do was a full on headstand handstand push-up on the wall at 270 f*cking pounds. I weigh 240 and done quite a few of them myself but at 270 thats just not human.

The third day was just incredible when we all played around with kettlebells and barbells along with a few sledgehammers and tires for superhuman endurance. It was a little emotional at the end for obvious reasons but I truely feel that this was something that just totally helped my life a tad more then usual and it was a lot of fun. Made friends with great people and having the honor of meeting Bud's son Noah who is a 13yr old strongman prodigy with a few things up his sleeve in the Clay Shooting world. This kid is the strongest I have ever met and he's not only that young but pretty damn big too at 6' and nearly 270 himself. I kid you not I personally watched this kid bend a 5 pound 4ft 1/2 inch thick flat steel bar into the breast cancer logo and lets just say that's not normal even for a strongman.

Overall, the presentations were great, Bud & Logan did a hell of a job and I personally believe this is a great moment in both their careers as strongmen and as business men. Meeting Bud to me is like meeting Hulk Hogan or Babe Ruth to me he is that Iconic in the Field of strongmanism and Physical Culture. For that I want to leave this on a high note starting with Bud......

My friend you have turned on a new light in my pursuit to be the strongest I can for whatever I wish to do, your small time to train me was a huge breakthrough for me and I will never forget that. You have taught me so much in a short period of time that I'm still shaking a little. You are one hell of a man and not only are you the world's strongest man but you have just as much as a strong and generous heart both literally and figuratively. I am damn proud to not only call you a mentor but a great friend and I hope one day sooner or later we cross paths again and just hammer out a workout then kick back and tell stories. Your son is one of the most polite young men I ever have met. You raised him well and I see a lot of potential in him and you will agree with me on that. I can't describe in true words really how much this meant to me. You are truly the world's strongest man at your size and power and it was a true pleasure to see a master at work. You are one of a kind and it was an honor meeting you.

Now Logan.....

Dude to me this was a high point in your career and I know in my heart it will only get higher from here on out. I can't thank you enough for letting be apart of this and giving me a chance to not only reach new levels of power but to keep myself educated. You are a true friend in every sense of the word and I'm honored to call you not only one of my best friends but also a brother. That's how much you mean to me bro. You have a such a vast knowledge for physical culture at your age its just unbelievable. You have my full on support for whatever lies ahead and I'll do what I can to help out if needed to. I realize it wasn't easy setting up for this crazy ass weekend but you handled yourself very well and its always a pleasure to learn from you and throw in a few laughs to spice up certain moments. Your mom would be so proud of you man. I'm not really on being so emotional and sentimental but this calls for an exception but you are one of the best teachers and friends a guy can ask for and you will always be a treasure to not only our crazy world of the strongman but a true man for who doesn't let anything get in his way. Almost anyone can and should learn from you.

My Thoughts On WWE Tough Enough

Back in the old days (yes even the 80's) it wasn't easy getting into the wrestling business. It was mostly word of mouth or men and women who have met wrestlers in the gym and if the wrestlers felt like you wanted it bad enough they'd recommend a trainer to toughen you up. Some of the best wrestling trainers nearly took out a wanna-be wrestler and wanted to see how long it took him to quit and how long can he last in the ring doing conditioning drills and ring work. Some trainers were wrestlers themselves at one time or another and some were better as trainers and some were great wrestlers and trainers.

The conditioning is a very brutal process, one wrestler went through NFL camps and said wrestling training was far more brutal. Another wrestler quit the first day but then came back and began one of the greatest careers in the business, even one wrestler was a Navy SEAL and found training as a wrestler was worth the price. You see it takes much more then physical ability to bring something to the table in the ring, you need character, poise, charisma and you need a body that people want to see along with how you present yourself as a character.

Here are a few trainers that have helped pave the way for some of the greatest wrestlers in wrestling history:

Hiro Matsuda- Trained Hulk Hogan

Eddy Sharkey- Trained Road Warriors, Jesse Ventura and Bob Backlaund

Verne Gangne- Trained Iron Sheik, Ken Patera, Ric Flair, Verne's son Greg and Ricky Steamboat

Stu Hart- Trained the Hart Brothers (Bret & Owen), Greg Valentine, Superstar Billy Graham & Chris Benoit

These trainers took these men to limits most of us can't fathom and look where they are today (with the exception of the late Hawk, Owen & Benoit), they went on to have some of the greatest careers in wrestling. Nowadays on the internet you can find schools all over the country, in canada and abroad. Some schools cost way too much, some cost too little without ever stepping into a ring and some even cost when you don't train at all. Very very few schools give you hands on training and some even require experience as much as 2 years in the ring. To get to the WWE or TNA takes hundreds of matches, psychology in the ring, mic work and most of all a good character to sell as a product.

Back in the early 2000's WWE Tough Enough started a new trend of reality TV but began to show what training in the ring looks like when up-in-coming superstars are thrown into the ring and trainers will find out who stays and who doesn't. The first couple seasons were ok and had good trainers such as Al Snow who was trained by a couple of the Andersons (Ole & Greg). The winners went onto a moderate career but a couple didn't last long due to either injuries or wanted to persue other career oppertunities.

Now theres a new season with a new host and trainers in the names of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Booker T, Bill Demott & WWE Diva legend Trish Stratus. Austin as the host takes on 14 contestants including 1 Current Miss America and they all have one thing in common and thats being the next WWE superstar & Diva. I have a feeling this season aside from tensions, craziness and pissing off trainers these new contestants are in for the ride of your life. They will live together, eat together, train together and everything else inbetween (hopefully none of that Real World shit). After seeing the first episode I knew how great this show will be and plus you get to see Stars that have revolutionized the wrestling business and know a thing or 2 about getting their asses kicked in the ring so I don't see a whole lot of sympathy from Austin or Booker so it should be very interesting to watch.

Being Creative For The Karl Gotch Bible

The old-time wrestler created or should I say found one of the greatest ways to get in great condition whether for combat sports or whatever. He would have his wrestlers/students work with a deck of cards, shuffle them around and have them see how far they would go. Usually in this manner it be the Hindu Squats and Hindu Push-ups which to Karl himself said to be the foundational exercises for optimal conditioning.

As time went on some wrestling teams or organizations would have their wrestlers play around with the deck and came up with other exercises like sit-ups, pull-ups and others to keep their wrestlers guessing because in competition you never know what's going to happen so this teaches you how to be prepared for the unexpected. Wrestlers in Japan seemed to like this type of conditioning so much that it became one of their tests (I believe) and it made some of the wrestlers practically unstoppable. I don't know if the deck was used in other countries but if they have it shows.

Next time you feel your training is not going anywhere or you're bored and want to change things up, get a god damn deck of cards and pick 2-4 types of exercises and see how long you can go. Time yourself. I have beaten the deck many times but I can tell you first hand that if you jump in too quickly you're gonna be sore like a mofo for days. My best time with just push-ups and squats was around 20-25 min. and with just 4 exercises its roughly 45 min. and I try to take as little breaks as possible because in wrestling there is no rest.

Do you need to be a wrestler to do this? Hell no. I'm certainly not one and wouldn't wanna mess with one. This type of training can be used by anyone who has the desire to get in shape, lose weight, build muscle and burn off fat like theres no tomorrow. I respect men like Gotch, Billy Robinson, Gama, Thesz and other old-timer so thats why I give them credit for building conditioning programs like this. If you're going to talk about old-timers and they're programs for christ sakes show them some respect and never give excuses about these types of programs. At first this type of program will be hard and it may seem impossible but don't give up. I couldn't finish 10 cards at first thats how bad I was and now after training for so long I can beat the deck just about any time I wanted. When you can finish a deck and you're sweating from head to toe and you have a smile on your face and want more either right there or later on, you are one tough son of a bitch and a hell of a conditioned athlete.

It takes more then physical strength, endurance and flexibility to beat the deck, it takes a sharp mind, laser-like focus, concentration and if you think about it, it takes the mind of a great warrior or better yet the mind-power of a REAL Wrestler. As of right now I just do push-ups and Hindu Squats/Jumpers but not just typical standard Push-ups but I do many variations to keep my body guessing and to use different things for different muscles. Be creative and learn how to beat your own deck.

For Those W/ Droids Or IPhone/IPads

Technology has come a long way and still going strong and there is some technology we don't need but I won't reveal what they are. One thing I do like and its having a Droid Phone. There are many apps to choose from and most of what I get has to do with training. I have one for Push-ups, Tabata workouts, Card workouts and Qi Gong.

If you're still inlove with training then I highly recommend these types of apps for the phone. Not only can your training can be effective but it can motivate you to take it to a different level. Now do you need these apps? Of course not this is just a suggestions. Play with the other apps another time and take the time to take advantage of amplifying your training. I'm not into bodybuilding type training but there are apps for those too.

My favorite so far is the Playing Card Workout. It gives you four exercises to do and off you go and lets see how many cards you can muster. You can also change the names of the exercises to whatever you choose. Example do Push-ups for hearts, Squats for diamonds, Hold A Horsestance for breaths instead of reps for spades and V-Ups for Clubs.....You can pick whatever exercises you choose and do what you can. Be creative.

Push-ups app is also a great tool because it keeps track of how many push-ups you want to accomplish in a row and gives a progression system to work with. Push-ups are one of the best bodyweight exercises on the planet and can make you a very fit person. If theres an app where you can do Squat Progressions i'd be all over it. Squats (especially hindu) are foundational exercises for the lower body and high reps can get you winded and when you get out of breath you're building growth hormone which helps build muscle, burn fat and turn you into a fitness machine. I would say that if I were to pick a peice of equipment for my training why not just use your phone and let it help you track your progress. Just keep a journal in hand to track your goals and write down reps/sets schemes for yourself. Here are a couple sites to help you find some great push-ups & squats.

Importance Of Flexibility

You can have all the strength, stamina, balance and you can have the most beautiful body on the planet but if you don't have the flexibility, you're not only prone to injury but you'll be stiff as a board and looking like an old man/woman walking around. Flexibility is very important for all athletes and the average Joe. Believe it or not its very important to Dancers, Entertainers & Musicians because if they're not up to par you won't see them perform very long.

I believe in the art of smart flexibility not just stretching in different places. I need to be flexible due to the injuries from my legs. I don't do the typical stretches you see in the gym or in PE class, no. The stretches I do require concentration and pure laser-like focus. I want to focus on moving that extra inch and meditate at the same time. Stretching shouldn't be that painful (Don't think for a second you're a better stretcher then the next guy, the most flexible people are the Shaolin Monks, Gymnasts, & Dancers). Stretching is about control, awareness and the ability to go that extra centimeter without putting so much effort. Every little time you stretch past a plateau with control and without pain, you are becoming stronger mentally and physically.

Its not hard to learn simple stretches but they're not easy either no matter how big or small you are. It takes patience, time and practice. Make the effort to become a little more flexible while focusing on strength gains and/or stamina. Limber up and work them muscles/tendons.

Want to learn how to fly like superman, shoot lasers out of your fingertips, be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? There's no tourquing point to it and plus with that kind of punch, in a fight the guy would notice it right away and has an advantage of getting out of the way. Lets make another sound....."Waaakkkaa." Picture in your mind what Bruce Lee sounds like when he fights. The way he punches is just severely fast and powerful. To give you a fact, during the filming of The Green Hornet, stunt guys, gaffers and even the director had to tell Bruce to slow down because his punching and kicking were so fast they couldn't even see some of the moves being made right infront of them. The told him to bring his movements down to 30% of his power. Now that is fast my friend no matter how you slice it.

Now you may not be able to kick or punch like Bruce Lee but you can jump start your strength possibly more then doubled the amount. With a few techniques, a little imagination and the effort to learn you can bring in far more strength and speed then ever thought possible. The man behind this dare-to-be-true topic is Garin Bader. For years upon years he has made his mark as a entertaining performer such as a martial artist, magician, acrobatic and most of all (his ultimate specialty) a pianist. He has learned some of the best numbers in the world and has performed countless shows such as Carnigie Hall, Cruise Ships, Las Vegas Showrooms and once performed infront of big time figures such as the Dhali Lama. With his craft he is able to generate such ferocity and powerful peices but with accuracy and stamina that is unmatched in my opinion. I have personally trained with the man himself and I guarantee you if you make the effort and learn this system and being open minded you can become stronger you can become more flexible and your speed with jump. Think of a light switch, once you learned this system correctly you can turn it on or off anytime you feel like it.

Don't sell yourself short and start becoming strong and vibrant and POWERFUL!!!!!!!!!

Being Interviewed By Matt Furey

Yesterday morning I had the pleasure of speaking to a great man by the name of Matt Furey. For those who don't know, Matt has established himself as a Internet entrepreneur not only in fitness but for business as well. A self-made millionare as you may put it. He is also been known in some circles as a fake and a controversial guy for his outlandish prices for products and other forms of money making schemes. Well I don't give a shit about all that stuff and I was honored to be interviewed by him. For the most part we got into how I recovered from my accident nearly 6 years ago, my accomplishments, my motivation for training and a certain secret that I recently discovered that I don't think was ever put in the same context as I have put.

I had a lot of fun with it and it lasted nearly 40 minutes. The questions he asked me were very thurough and I answered back with some humor and straight to the point. Developing Pull-up Power From A World Class Gymnast & A Concert Pianist

How the hell can two very different athletes share secrets to doing pull-ups and not only get you to amp up your reps but give you little tidbits on how to increase your power to develop a great v-taper and strengthen your entire upper body? Well its not surprising that this shit works. I've seen both of these guys in action and i'm here to tell you that they are the best at what they do.

Pull-ups are one of the most neglected exercises in physical culture today and why is that? Its because they're difficult to do and when someone can't even get themselves up its humiliating. I know how that feels and being a super-heavyweight at 5'10 its even worse. Yet what if you learned some tricks that not only helped you get your first rep but also increase your reps if you're a veteran of the exercise. One of the key points to doing rep after rep is your grip. Grip strength is another neglected area that needs to have spot on power. Without grip strength you won't be able to even get up past the bar.

The guys who will get your pull-up strength going are Entertainers/World Class Athletes Cass De Kok & Garin Bader. Cass is a Las Vegas Entertainer in the show Bite, a Vampire spectical and in your face action. His strength to hold himself up with one-arm and grab his wife with the other is just un fucking believeable. His presence on the stage makes you feel that anything is possible. Garin on the other hand is a pianist with dexterity and strength that will make your jaw drop from the first note. I've seen how strong this guy is and he makes certain people look like wimps. They're ability to teach pull-ups is awesome and well thought through. Pull-ups are one of the exercises in the world and can turn your upperbody into a strength machine and give you gripping power and shoulder flexibility unlike anything else.

Some of us never get a chance to do the things that goes beyond ourselves. Achieving something much greater then yourself is a very tough task. 301 Kettlebell Snatches In 10min.

That just doesn't sound believeable. How can a man at 6'2 185 lbs. be one of three men to hit that many reps with a 53 lb. KB when the other 2 men beat him in a massive size advantage. Plus why in the hell would anyone want to do that many reps in that amount of time? On a more serious note the man who has now accomplished this feat is Personal Trainer/Strongman Logan Christopher. Small or Big You Have The Ability To Be Super Strong

When you visualize the image of a strongman what do you see? Cannonball Biceps? Thourobread Legs? Horseshoe Triceps? A V-Taper Back? Thats what many would think you nee to have to be strong when infact you don't need to have major built muscles. When a strongman performs a feat of strength (legit ones) he doesn't just incorperate muscles, he throws in muscle fibers, tendon power and the will to push through pain. It doesn't matter how big you are or how small you are, you can develop your body into a superhuman with proper training, an iron will and the ability to want to reach the next level. Here are the names of some strongmen small and big that you'd be surprised that are as strong and powerful far more then how they look....

Joseph Greenstein aka The Mighty Atom: At the peak of his career as a strongman he was no more then 5'4 and weighed just around 155 pounds. He was able to bend objects that just seemed impossible to the human eye. How can a man that size bend things like spikes, Iron Bars into various shapes, pull a car with his teeth, hold back an airplane with his hair. Its hard to believe that a man did all this but its true. He took various methods and put them together in a way that almost no one on earth can touch and was a feared man at one point because not only was he incredibly strong but he was also a wrestler that rarely ever lost. What was his secret?

Lawrence Farman aka Slim The Hammerman: At 8 years old his parents took him to a market and while the parents shopped, the young boy sat at a table and watched the Mighty Atom in his "old age" bend spikes and talk of nutrition and health. 10 years later this same young boy grew to a rugged muscular man and was still going to the Market to watch Atom do what he does best. This same man was working at a rock quarry where he smashed rock after rock for hours and hours on end. He became so strong that at 6'6 230 pounds, he can pick up a 16 pound sledgehammer from the floor by levering the bottom of the handle. Atom took a look at this and just couldn't believe a man can do this. Atom took on the Rugged man as his protege' and taught him the secrets of strongmanism and 20 years later, this guy sets a world record in all places Madison Square Garden and lifted and levered 2 hammers weighing in at 28 pounds each would put as much as 1760 inch pounds on his wrists. Within a 10-12 year period he started to peak and get stronger. Most men would think peaking is in their 20's and yet this guy peaked beyond 40. How the hell do you do that?

Otto Arco: The man of muscle control is one of the most developed men that ever lived during the golden age of Physical Culture. His poses were not only unique but were the stuff of legends. He not only had a superior physique but he had more then enough power to back up being one of the first men to press double-bodyweight at his size of 140 pounds at a height of 5'5. Where did he get his power from? What were the things he took to get that muscular? Is it genetics? Believe it or not he lifted weights, hand balance, ate whole foods and practiced gymnastics/wrestling, with the exception of surreal muscle control he never took steroids or took so?

How awesome would it be to learn the best of the best and develop a powerful physique whether you weigh 150 pounds or 300 pounds? Is it really possible to create strength and superior stamina, flexibility and nerves of steel without steroids or supplements? Whats With All The Damn Links

As many of you have seen, I have banners and text links on the right-hand side of the blog because I'am apart of the affiliate programs and whatever one buys from one of my links I get a certain percentage out of it. Now am I in this for the money? I don't think so, if I was I would need to do far more work to promote them. Unlike wanting just money out of it I want to spread the word on them as well because I have personally used the various products and they work wonders without needing to say it twice. What you see is what I have used and go by. For bodyweight exercise I practice Bridging, squats and Animal Exercise very often & its never boring for me and it shouldn't be for anyone else.

I cannot express enough how awesome most of these products are and the athletes who work these products to me are the best of the best in their profession. Take Logan Christopher for example. A man at 6'2 and 180 pounds can juggle weights that the average man can only dream of. His strength is that much greater then some heavyweights. I'm 250 pounds and there are some things I would never attempt to do. That tells you size doesn't matter if you put yourself in a state of mind where you can be powerful no matter how big or small you are. His flexiblity is just as incredible as his strength as he's got some of the most controlled flexibility i've ever seen....Being able to fall back into a bridge then kicking over and standing up all in one fluid motion is not easy at all let alone being able to do it at 6'2  thats how controlled he is over his body. Anything he has to offer I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. He can take a weak individual and turn him into a athlete and not just on building strength and power but can teach you how to tap into your mind and bring out power within you that you never have done before. He is that damn good.

Bud Jeffries is another individual who has tremendous power. He is the exact opposite to Logan as far as size and strength goes. At 5'11 and 275 pounds he can take 100 pound dumbbells and make them look like 3 pounders. He's one of the strongest men on the planet hitting weight that would make the average man want to run for the hills. He has lifted half a ton in the squat starting in the bottom position, he's been able to lift heavy logs, carry large rocks and move kettlebells like they were lightweights. Regardless of his strength he is also one of the most flexible superheavyweights as well, able to do the splits, get into a bridge (both wrestler and gymnastic) and can stretch further then most men 20-30 pounds lighter then him. If you want to combine the best in weights, bodyweight and odd objects he is your man and if you feel he isn't then get the Twisted Conditioning series and see for yourself how much you can develop for overall strength and pure ferocious power.

Ryan Pitts would be the next guy on this list of athletes because he has helped bring back an old-time physical culture tradition and thats the Indian Clubs and The Mace. These weapons of exercise destruction has taken wrestlers to the very brink of the sport in Europe, Asia, India & Iran and everywhere else inbetween. You think you know conditioning, you haven't seen a damn thing until you have used the Clubs & The Mace. Once you get your hands on these bad boys you'll start to feel more powerful and more agile. Plus if you're a real stud get some sledgehammers and take the Mace to a whole new level of superior strength and power and work the grip unlike anything else. Even if you're not a wrestler these peices of equipment can be used by anyone who is willing to take the challenge and even has light weighted clubs and maces to help you get started or as an advanced athlete you will learn how to move your upper body in various directions to build shoulder and wrist agility that can help recover joint pain and carpal tunnel.

These guys know what they are talking about and are willing to help anyone who is up to the challenge and take his or her first steps to becoming a superior athlete and a rugged human being. Give these guys a chance and take your rightful place in Physical Culture. Spread the word of exercise and health and get rid of weakness and fear. Theres an old saying...

Getting Back To Basics & Why

Isolated training is really only good for one thing and thats rehabbing. The muscles and tendons were designed to be able to do multiple things while doing a single act. Push-ups for example are not just a chest exercise, it works the wrists, chest, arms, abs, shoulders and legs. Why would you need to work one specific muscle when you can get the whole shabang. Say you're in manual labor and had to dig ditches, stack bricks, break concrete blocks or move heavy objects....all of these do not require just one type of muscle group, they work multiple muscle groups so you're getting quite a workout in and of itself. That was just an example but it doesn't matter if you're an athlete, average joe, laborer or what, yes it takes some specific muscles to work something but for the most part you want to be able to use as many muscles as you can because if you work a specific muscle group too long you're prone to injury. Exercise in working multiple groups adds more benefit then just isolating.

Working out doesn't always mean you have to work the same muscles all the time, change things up make it interesting, instead of doing lateral raises why not do presses, instead of leg extensions do squats, why not take out the pull-downs and actually try pull-ups. When it really gets down to it, basic exercises are the way to go. Ask any strongman or look at and read of the old-timers and you will find the same thing. Isolation sucks because the body was not made to function that way it was meant to move and use multiple muscles to work that movement. Even in weightlifting, basic exercises like presses, squats, curls and dealifts are really all one needs to get in awesome physical shape. If you want to add variety why not add a sandbag or a few rocks and kettlebells to the mix. Practice performing basic movements whether bodyweight or weights either way they work like a charm and can build wonders beyond your imagination.

Changing Gears To Supercharge Your Workouts

Every once in a while or for some of us on a consistant basis, its good to switch things up to not only add variety to our training but to keep our minds sharp and keep the body guessing for whats coming next. It takes just one exercise to change your entire routine and no you don't need to do reps or go for speed but you can just hold a certain position for a period of time.

I would bet you that if you added one isometric exercise to your regimen, it will give a whole new meaning to strength training. Lets say for example you do 100 Hindu Squats then the moment you're done hold a horsestance for exactly 1 min. Is it easy? Well it's hard to say. Test it out and see what happens. Thats one small challenge to conquer but its a change of pace isn't it? I've held positions as long as 10 min. and I can assure you its no picnic but why take the easy road when you can put your body and mind to the test.

It takes a lot more guts to hold an isometric then it is to do 100 reps of something unless its an exercise that couldn't possibly be done at 100 much less 25, 10 or 4. Heres a workout that just would kill the strongest of men and take a min/body connection that would make elite athletes quiver.....Supersets Of Hell

100 Hindu Squats

5 minute horsestance

50 Military Push-ups

3 minute Mid-Push-up Hold

10 Pull-ups

1 minute Handstand Push-up Hold

Now if i'm able to do this workout in under 20 minutes I'd be the new Jack Lalanne. This is not a beginner workout and I don't expect you to ever get to it within a week. What i'm trying to get at is that when you take charge of changing your routine, you're putting in the effort to take your training to levels unlike anyone can imagine. Not saying you need to go hardcore all the time it wouldn't be ethical but theres no harm but amping up your conditioning and create workouts that not only suit for you but nobody else should do but you. Old School Training With A New Twist

A lot of people think these days that training methods back in the day are outdated and have no place in the gyms and are not for strength and flexibility and if you're doing them they would laugh or be confused or better yet have that "what the hell are you doing these for. Those arn't traditional." Well in some ways they're right, they arn't traditional, they arn't your typical modern exercises and most of all they don't belong in the gym today because they're TOO GOOD FOR THAT CRAP!

I really hate to offend these people but you know what, pull your head out of your asses and look at the big picture here. The old school methods are not only better then today's training styles but they're more simplistic and are far more creative. When you trained back in the 20's, 30's, 40's, even the 50's you learned why basic exercises like olympic weightlifting and push-ups, squats, clubs, maces and simple dumbbell and barbell training can turn you into a superhuman. I would bet you if you took a bodybuilder today up against a bodybuilder of yesteryear you would not only see a massive difference in size (not bloated yesteryear's BB) but also in strength. Take John Grimek for example. He was without question the Ronnie Colman of his day, winning competition after competition and was the only man in history to win the Mr. America title 2 years in a row. His training was basic dumbbell and barbell training and every now and then would drop and do push-ups or pull-ups, free hand squats and muscle control. His muscle control at the time was unbelieveable and not many men his size (heavyweights back then were under 200 pounds for most of them, he was no more then 185 at 5'7) were that solid and powerful and can move his muscles in ways that were unmatched.

Its one thing to criticize the old school methods its another to not realize that these methods worked and I may be a bodyweight only trainee but if I was around in that era I wouldn't have minded training the way those guys did. What they did was unique and brought a hell of an outlook on how training should be done. Not just for size and strength but for health and longevity. Yes back then people died younger then they have today. If you were born in 1900, chances were slim if you lived to be 50 but yet if you look at the men and women who trained in that era beat the aging process by a huge percentage. Bernarr McFadden died at 88 in 1955, Farmer Burns died in mid-late 1930's at the "ancient" age of 86-88, Bob Hoffman 1898-1985. What was their secret? How could any of these men lived to be at an age in a era where you were considered to be an old man at 50 or 60. It was their ability to take that govenor in their brains and find a solution to live longer and not only found a way but beat the aging process by a mere 25-30 years longer the average age at the time.

Are you seeing what i'm getting at here? Old methods may be outdated but thats actually a good thing. They worked, they gave the pioneers of physical culture a reason to keep on living, keep being healthy and strong into their 80's, 90's, even 100's. Grip Strength Is A Must

Whether you're a weightlifter, strongman, wrestler, baseball player, MMA Athlete or just an average joe, it is apperent that you develop grip strength in order to enhance your performance. You can do all the exercises you want but if your grip is not up to par then you're not going to go that far. Grip training is one of the most neglected parts of strength and conditioning because a lot of people automatically think its easy to either lift a good amount of weight or do a few fingertip push-ups or grab a hold of GI in a jujitsu match. Actually the exact opposite is true. When you add a good grip workout whether in of itself or as part of your routine, you're building strength that will go a long way. One of the biggest secrets of the old-time wrestlers and strongmen was they're ability to have strong and powerful tendons in the lower arm, wrist and hands. This can be contributed through isometrics, bending steel, wrist curls, thick bar training, using sandbags, pinch gripping and so on.

One of the oldest peices of equipment is the Indian Clubs. They were used in India for many centuries to help wrestlers develop shoulder mobility, Wrist power and strengthening the arms through a series of movements that targeted the upper body that some methods can't reach. The Mace was another tool for Indian Wrestlers because unlike the Clubs, these bad boys taught the body how to coordinated going from from shoulder to shoulder through a single swing that helped strengthen the shoulders, elbows, arms, wrists and hands. With careful practice these things not only took grip strength to another level but it gave a certain advantage that wrestlers in the US didn't have. One of the greatest wrestlers of all-time the Great Gama trained in many forms and not just doing squats and push-ups in the hundreds but used the clubs and the mace. How great was his strength? Well, how about not losing a single match in his entire career, over 5000 victories. That should tell you something how powerful and useful these tools are. There arn't too many places on the internet to find clubs and maces. Yet if I had to pick a source that not only cells clubs and maces but you get to choose hammers, blobs, levers and Grip Dumbbells and thick bar handles.

Putting The "Fun" In Functional Conditioning

Too many people these days don't have enough fun in their training.

"Man, I can't wait till this is over."

"Jesus Christ when does it end."

"I can't do this its too hard."

"Why in hell do I need to THIS!"

I bet you dollars to donuts you've heard some of these quotes more often then these.....

Its all about attitude when you train. When you're down and don't feel like nothing is working, nothing will work. When you feel that its a great workout and need to back off a little thats a different story. That tells me you're enjoying yourself and you know your limits. Fun training is when you put fear and awkwardness aside and just go out there and be yourself. Its not easy but its simple enough to learn. Having fun is not goingf out there and making bad form or half-assing anything, its being proud of what your doing, you make an effort to work on your form and you smile while you doing it. Smiling goes a long way not just working out but morely outside of it as well. Take Boring Out & Go Nuts

What can you do to make your lifting more fun? You can speed up a press, try to whistle while you squat, how about even doing frog jumps with a Kettlebell. If you want my opinion if you're a kettlebell fan then why try to Juggle a kettlebell. Seriously if you want to take your KB Conditioning to a whole new level then switch hands every second and try to even walk. Think of juggling a pair of balls but add in an extra 10, 20 or 30 pounds. I tried this a few times and I'll tell ya it is difficult but it is fun as hell. When you learn to literally throw weight around in all sorts of places you're producing more Human Growth Hormone, gaining more power and building unreal grip strength. What Can A Former College Linebacker Teach You About Conditioning?

How Can Training Be So Twisted

Whether you like it or not certain training methods are just crap. You do 30 minutes on the treadmill and an hour of whatever weights you lift and that's your workout. Seriously, how generic do you have to be and dull I might add. Training is suppose to be interesting, fun and mysterious. You should be getting cardio and strength training at the same time and using different implements. If I wanted serious conditioning and I was into lifting weights I'd want to be hitting stones, swinging heavy clubs and pressing logs. The way I look at is if you're serious about training, you have to be creative and adapt to heavy training. Most of all you have to be really "twisted" in order to get the results you want. Functional training requires being able to use different angles and move in awkward positions. What you can look at is Bud Jeffries' Twisted Conditioning Series. Work into equipment that can not only build strength but surreal stamina and scary conditioning. Secrets Of The Old-Time Strongmen

Some of the biggest names in weightlifting shared certain secrets on how to not only increase their strength but how to build tendon and ligement strength as well. Back in the early days of Physical Culture there were strongmen that didn't just lift weights and do bodyweight exercise....They added an arsenal of training methods to not only experiment with but it helped their advantage that much more. Back when gyms were just on the uprise there men across the country who couldn't get to a gym either because it was too far away or because they didn't have the money to pay for the equipment themselves to use at home so they improvised a lot and tested different methods and found exercises that not only made them very strong but it helped carry over to when they could use weights. There were exercises that tackled very differently then weights and challenged the body from different angles and were in different shapes and sizes hence the name Odd Object Lifting. Say you had a barrel laying around or a sandbag....You can do a good amount of training using these objects and can turn your body into a conditioning machine.

Odd Objects are not barbells and dumbbells they are peices of equipment that can come from whatever you have. Here are a few Examples....

All these would be considered odd objects to train with. A man who has mastered these time and time again is strongman Steve Justa. If you never heard of him he is considered one of the strongest men in the world and has written a book called Rock, Iron, Steel. You can find that on the Ironmind Website or at Functional Strength owned by John Wood. Justa is best known for training in his backyard and lifting very heavy weight ranging from 500 pounds to 2000 pounds. He carries scrap iron, lifts heavy barrels and carries a yoke that weighs as much as a beetle car. I have very high respect for what he does and is a genius in the realm of strength training. Another man whom I have high respects is Strongman Bud Jeffries. He has a DVD series covering many exercises on odd object lifting and the way he teaches you how to handle them are just incredible. I've played around with Barrels, Rocks and Sandbags myself and I will tell you without blinking twice they are ass-kickers and once you learn to adapt them into your training you will get stronger.

Think of it this way, with barbells and dumbbells you can only move them in limited directions. Now what if you can move a weight in more directions and still gain strength? That be a better way to look at it in my book. George Hackenschmidt once said that to be strong overall you have to adapt to more then just limited movement. If you want to get strong you have to work different angles while working major muscle groups. If you think lifting a 135 pound barbell is the same as lifting a 135 pound barrel it isnt. It takes far more strength and stability to lift a barrel because you can't tell which way it'll go so you have to shift your weight and grip it much differently and not in the same places as a barbell. What Women Want?

In the fitness world many women have trouble creating the body they want to achieve...Toned Muscles, Firm Thighs, Slim Abs and last but not least a sexy butt. Its harder for a woman to build the body she wants because the less terstosterone they have as oppose to us guys. Whenever they do think about exercise many feel "It'll make me bulky and I don't want to look too muscular." How many times have we heard them say thaty? If someone had a nickle every time they heard it he'd be a millionare.

As far as i'm concerned regardless of how much estrogen or testerone a woman has they are pound for pound ounce for ounce stronger then most men. I once heard of a woman who was 106 pounds swing a 106 pound Kettlebell, now I dont know about you but that is pretty damn strong and from what I heard she wasn't a bulky girl either. Now try picturing a man at 200 pounds trying to swing a KB his own weight, do you think he could pull it off, highly unlikely so that should tell you how strong a woman can be.

I have trained around plenty of women in gymnastics, Core-Performance and Weight Management Training and they have smoked me in areas I can't do and i'm pretty flexible for a 245+ pound guy. Its never easy for a woman to train the same way as a man and why should they? They're build different and need different types of training to enhance their abilities but yet they can become stronger. It takes practice and patience and the belief in yourself to bring out a strong and powerful woman. Women are precious in more ways then one and some are vulnerable to many areas but that doesn't mean they can't get strong and still look super sexy.

There are 2 people I know of who can train not just men but perferably more for women how to become strong and powerful not just on the outside but the inside as well. They're names are Vanessa Bader & Ed Baran. Vanessa to me is one of the best dancers in the world and believe it or not she is one of the strongest women on the planet and yet she has one of the most beautiful bodies you would ever seen. She is a kettlebell, pilates and dance instructor and has performed in shows that would blow you out of the water. She performes with her husband Garin Bader who's a Concert Virtuoso and Magician. If anyone knows how to get women in shape the right way its her. Ed Baran is a former Charles Atlas student and has dabbed in bodybuilding, cycling and olympic weightlifting. At age 35 he studied gymnastics and has never looked back. He is an instructor and author of a plethora of fitness books and dvds. I would consider him one of the best conditioned men in the world and his physique is one of the best i've ever seen. He's in his mid 40's but makes men 20 years younger look like chumps. He's also an instructor on women's fitness and has had testamonials from women all over the world proving without a shout of a doubt he is the real deal and help women reach their goals.

What Alternatives Do You Want To Spice Up Your Workouts?
