May The Schwartz...I Mean May The 4th Be With You


Spaceballs, probably my favorite comedy of all time next to Who Framed Roger Rabbit. "What's the matter Col. Sandurz? CHICKEN???" Anyway, Happy Star Wars Day everybody. Today is not just about the stories from a Galaxy Far, Far, Away, it's also our Anniversary. 7 Years married, together 11. 

Celebrated a little bit last night going out to dinner at a favorite restaurant and took a walk around the park nearby to watch the sunset. Before we left, I got my girl some Anniversary gifts and of course the majority of them was Star Wars themed.

Last one was a book she had an eye on that is an Autobiography of WWE Women's Legend Natalya Neidhart, the only woman to have survived the famous Hart Dungeon. Daughter of Jim The Anvil Neidhart and Granddaughter to Stu Hart. 

So, as usual during the day, I get my workouts in but yesterday was a hell of a challenge. Decided to really test my conditioning by doing both a Deck Of Cards Workout and a Dopa Band Circuit in the same session. The deck was 800 Reps of Animal Moves including Bear Crawls, Crab Walks, Half Squat Walks & Duck Walks. Little rest other than walking back and flipping a card. Once I finished the deck (a bit fatigued), I set up the Dopa Band and did another 500 Reps of the Circuit including Chest Flys, Wave Pulls, Uppercut To Squats, Jump Skis & Propellers. 10 Reps each exercise with the only rest was marking down the circuit. 

That was nasty as shit but I made it through and the endorphins really kicked in. The only thing that sucked ass was, before I trained, my left sandal broke off where the toes are locked in and ended up walking back home barefoot. Wasn't bad really, kind of enjoyed it especially being able to walk on some grass and feeling the earth beneath. The workout itself was interesting but hard and a hell of a mental game. There were a couple times I wanted to quit but I just said to myself "Fuck that, this is getting good".

I've said it before and I'll say it again, conditioning is your greatest asset. You can look like a million bucks but if your cardio is barely a thing when it counts the most, all that muscle is just flesh that won't save your ass when shit gets called upon. Workouts like these will test most men and some may even call them world-class but I'm too damn modest to have it called that. Train with intent and challenge yourself but always be in control as best as possible and still walk away without looking like you just fought the walking dead. 

Extreme training has its perks but only every couple to a few days or so. Is this workout considered extreme? Well, it's 1300 reps with very little rest so you tell me LOL? Do it too often, it'll bite you back in the ass if you're not careful. Anybody who tells you to go extreme all the time is a sell out that would rather have you hurt than thrive in your journey. They don't give a shit about you, they care about what goes into their bank account and like to run their mouth about being better than anybody else when chances are, they're not in the type of shape they claim to be and just expect you to take their word for it. They're likely to look like something that makes Karen Carpenter seem like she had muscle on her compared to them. Not a good look man. Fix that asap.

Realistic training is about self discovery, learning what your capabilities are, finding challenges but not killing yourself in order to get results, utilizing awareness and small progressions overtime. You don't need to go so crazy that you can't make progress or act like you need to be better than 8+ billion people in the world. Don't be a second rate has been or a ever was, be the first you and thrive with a kick ass mindset that makes you want to do things daily. You got this and I believe in you.

Remember, a Jedi's strength flows from the force, but be aware of the Darkside. Fear is a path you never want to go down, fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering. If you let yourself go down a path where you have to use your ego as a weapon or be some controversial asshat to make others feel worthless about themselves because they don't follow what you "teach" or you tell them that it's your way or the highway, you're losing a battle that can't be won and it just makes you a pitiful little prick with a superiority complex. Don't destroy yourself mentally and physically in order to get the results you want. Be successful in inspiring others and give them tools that will help them become something they were meant to be.

Anakin Skywalker May Feel Differently About Sand If....


 It's coarse, rough, irritating and it gets everywhere but what if we changed the idea of how to work with sand instead of hating it. I get it, if you're born in a desert, the last thing you want to deal with is sand. Sand can be used for many things but training with it can be a whole other ball game. Sandbag Training has been used by many athletes and laborers throughout the ages. It builds a real world type of strength and it hits the body far differently than with a barbell or a dumbbell.

It builds a level of fitness that even an Emo Jedi born on Tatooine can maybe work on and would make you harder to kill (talk about a different form of force training). I would play with the Sandbells off and on, doing different things like carries, 360's, slams, shouldering, squats and other exercises yet there's something satisfying about them that just make you feel powerful. Like training to be a Jedi, you learn to not take the easy path and find the flow yet the strength and awareness to use what is best to handle tough situations. Sandbag Training is not meant to be easy and it forces you to figure out how to move and wrestle with something that isn't always easy to grip and pick up. It takes something that is tough and triumph over adversity. 

Sandbag Work challenges your entire body in ways you can't with a straight bar to lift with. You're using muscles you normally don't use and it has a more natural feel to it. Carrying a bag can be very tough especially when you go heavy. It's live weight and it doesn't like to sit still, it'll move and shift while trying to fight you. It's a literal wrestling match match at times. Hauling something like a 50 lb bag will work you harder than a 50 lb dumbbell and there's a reason why many of the old time strongmen worked with heavy bags in order to do other lifts. It prepared them and utilize their muscles that is more controlled with a straight bar to lift, it also strengthened their tendons and ligaments to a very high degree. If a Jedi like Anakin trained with bags, maybe it would've been tougher cutting up those arms and legs of his, you never know.

The conditioning with Sandbags is crucial not just for sports but for everyday life as well. It can build muscle and level up your muscular endurance for hauling furniture, loading a truck, strengthen your back and core along with giving you legs that last for days. Some of the very best cardio I've ever done was with the Sandbells mixing loaded carries with Step Ups and going for extended periods of time working strength and cardio at the same time. It works like a charm and it makes you work hard like crazy. If you don't believe me, try going for 5-10 minutes cleaning and pressing a 50-100 lb bag, I guarantee you you'll feel it and it'll show you weaknesses you didn't think you had. Think that was easy, ok then do bear hug squats with a bag and then go for distance doing the duck walk with it, you won't get very far. 

Don't be like Anakin and hate sand, embrace it as a tool to make you strong in more ways than one. Keep being amazingly awesome.

Absorbing Energy Both Positive And Negative

          Like Obiwan says in Star Wars “The force surrounds us, it penetrates us and binds the galaxy together”, the force in reality is surrounding energy. Some look at the force as some blasphemous evil and it’s not even real but yet it very much is. We absorb energy from the moment we were born to the day we die, day in and day out we surround ourselves with some form of energy. The energy that surrounds us has both positive and negative effects. The positive as an example would by energy that has happiness, warmth from within, the negative would be the surrounding energy of gloominess, sadness, fear, anxiety.

            Why do we absorb it? Sometimes it just happens whether we ant it to or not. Think of it this way, you wake up one day feeling happy and gitty, then you turn on the morning news and you watch it for a bit then all of a sudden you start to feel sad and stressed, it’s because you absorbed the negative energy coming from the news and your feelings change. Now I hate the news and prevent myself from watching it because I don’t want to feel those negative effects. Another look at how energy is around us is when you walk into a place and you sense something is up and you can't quite put your finger on it, you’re aware of it but you can't figure out whether it’s good or bad. At times you can sense something great or bad but its all how you absorb it. Sometimes we don't always feel it but also we absorb so much its overwhelming and can have an explosive effect so like anything else, if you do something too much, it’s going to come back and bite you in the ass.

            The energy surrounding our bodies can be our best friend or our worst enemy and from experience I've had both and one or the other has hit me hard, to use the energy to our advantage we ought to use a strategy for both offensive and defensive. The offense is like having an all-star team that just seems like they're unbeatable and can score and power through obstacles like it’s nothing; the defensive is when you have another all-star team that just seems like whatever crosses their path nobody can get passed them, like your own version of Fort Knox with the highest level of security. Picture in your mind what you want for your all-star squads and they can be anyone you want or you can choose to put up barriers it’s up to you. You can use the energy to block out anxiety and stress and you can use energy for how you move and creating powerful spheres that can help you with your strength.


            Use your energy strategy wisely. Sometimes energy whether good or bad can come at us without being aware of it and it can hit us harder and hurt or feel good more than anything physical. Learn to be aware of certain energy and use your imagination to create a powerful team or barrier and use them to your own endeavor. Whether you're an office worker, athlete, fitness enthusiast or whoever you choose to be and going through life in general, you have powerful energy and you can absorb its strength but how you do it is up to you and developing awareness is a key.
